Virginia Harwood

  Virginia Harwood


Virginia Harwood is a full-time faculty member at Durham College and has recently joined the college’s Centre for Academic and Faculty Enrichment as an educational developer.  She has been full-time at the college for 10 years teaching and coordinating programs in the college’s School of Justice & Emergency Services.  In 2011, Virginia was instrumental in launching the college’s graduate certificate program in Mediation-Alternative Dispute Resolution together with the college’s mediation clinic, Campus Conflict Resolution Services.


Prior to joining the college, Virginia enjoyed a successful career in the legal profession and mediation.  Harwood holds an advanced diploma in Law Clerk, a B.Ed. in Adult Education, (Q.Med) – ADRIO - Canadian Qualified Mediator, associate member of ILCO, and will complete her M.Ed. in Spring 2015. Virginia was awarded the Durham College, Vice-President, Academic, Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in 2011 and the prestigious Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, College Sector Educator Award in 2013. 


Virginia enjoys working with faculty and program teams in enhancing teaching and learning experiences for students and faculty.

Marie Nathalie Moreau

 

Marie Nathalie Moreau has been a faculty member at College La Cité in Ottawa since 1996 in the Criminal Justice Services program.
In 2010, she was asked to join the Centre for Teaching and Learning at La Cité and work with faculty members in the area of professional development. She is now Coordinator of Talent Management within the department of Human Resources and Organisational Development.

Jean-Maurice Lafond

 

Professor at La Cité since August 2004, Jean-Maurice Lafond has completed his High school Degree in Cornwall, Ontario. He holds a Bachelor Degree specialized in communications from the University of Ottawa and a Master Degree in Public Administration from L’École nationale d'administration publique du Québec. During his career, Mr. Lafond has held various positions of management and communication in postsecondary institutions and in the field of health and social services.

John Oughton

  John Oughton

Centennial College's first Professor of Learning and Teaching, has taught in the Ontario college system for over 24 years. Until retirement at the end of 2016, he has focused on providing faculty and curriculum development as part of the Center for Organizational Learning and Teaching. He is now working on a practical guide to teaching higher education.

John, with an MA in English Literature, has completed all but his dissertation on the affective domain for a PhD in Education at York University. He has published six books of poetry, over 400 articles, blogs, reviews and interviews, and a suspense novel set in Prince Edward County, Death by Triangulation, was published  in 2015.

Terri Geerinck

 

Terri Geerinck has been involved with the college system since 1984.  With over 20 years of experience in the classroom and an additional 10 years as a Curriculum Consultant, she has seen many changes within colleges.  Courses she taught included Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Interpersonal and Group Dynamics, Teams in the Workplace, and Human Relations. She has also authored and co-authored five books on human relations and interpersonal and group dynamics.  As a Curriculum Consultant, she developed many college programs, worked with program faculty and coordinators for program review and licensing, ran new teacher workshops, and assisted faculty in developing their courses. 


Terri has facilitated a variety of workshops inside and outside of the college, including team building, program review and development, faculty development, as well as working for many years with the Aligning and Building Curriculum program.  In retirement, she continues to develop new college programs including Sustainable Waste Management and Applied Planning- Environmental and is publishing her first fiction novel. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Education.

Jake Sandison

 

Jake Sandison has worked in the college system since 2002. As a MSc prepared kinesiologist with a background working with elite athletes, cardiac rehabilitation patients and adapted populations, he had roles as faculty and coordinator program in the Fitness and Health Promotion and Recreation and Leisure Services programs at Loyalist. For the past 7 years, he has held the position of Coordinator of Teaching and Learning at Loyalist. In this role Jake promotes faculty development, supports quality assurance and curriculum renewal and supports best practices. Jake has been involved with Eastern Region programs as a member of the ERCCHRD and is currently co-Chair of the provincial CCHRD committee.

 

Jake is an advocate of lifelong learning and has completed a MEd in adulty learning, technology and leadership. Personally he has enduring interests in wookworking, music and drystack stone work.

Deanna Douglas

 

Deanna Douglas has been a faculty member at Algonquin College in Ottawa since 2009.  She began teaching part-time in the diploma and OYAP Hairstylist programs and was hired as a full-time professor in 2010.  She has been an academic advisor, coordinator and mentor for the past 4 years, as well as Chair’s Ontario’s Hairstyling Curriculum Development Advisory Committee.  As a resource to MTCU and OCOT Deanna has been involved in re-writing provincial exemption exams and facilitating pilots for the Red Seal practical exam implementation in Ontario.  In 2013 she mentored a student to win Gold at Skills Ontario.


She received her Hairstyling Red Seal Qualification in B.C. in 1994.  This year she will attain certificates in both Teaching Adult Lifelong Learners from Algonquin College as well as the In-Service Teachers Training certificate from St. Clair College.  She’s feels truly fortunate to share her passion as a Hairstylist and Educator with her students and colleagues.

Julie Brown:

 

Julie Brown is a psychotherapist currently working in the Peterborough area.  She has over 17 years of experience working with organizations which include Victoria BC Emergency Mental Health, Trent University, Fleming College and the Peterborough Family Health Team.  She holds a Master's degree in Counselling psychology from the University of Victoria  and a Bachelor of Music Therapy from Capilano University.


She currently provides psychotherapy to patients of primary care physicians in Peterborough and has a private practice where she provides both individual and couples therapy.  Julie has specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, mindfulness meditation and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Julie is passionate about facilitating Mindfulness groups, which has proven to be an extremely effective tool for addressing issues of anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief and other stressful life circumstances.    In addition to her private practice, Julie is an experienced presenter, and has provided workshops to organizations and conferences on mindfulness, trauma and the impact of technology on personal and professional wellness.
